Caring for your Wooden Utensils
- Wash them by hand in warm soapy water.
- Do not put them in the dishwasher: the high heat and humidity can cause the wood to crack
- Never let them soak in water for long periods as they will absorb water and may crack when they dry.
Maintenance: To keep your wooden utensils looking great and to ensure their long life and durability, I recommend that you periodically maintain them. When the wood looks dry, apply one of these: a food grade mineral oil, hemp oil, walnut oil, pure tung oil, linseed oil, flax oil, coconut oil, a commercial salad bowl finish, or even olive oil. Before applying, make sure the wood is completely dry. If the wood feels a bit rough, rub it first with fine sandpaper (220 or 320 grit works well), fine steel wool or a dry plastic scrubbing pad till smooth. Then apply oil with a rag or your fingers (just wet it; you don’t need much), and let it soak in for a few minutes. Wipe of excess oil with a rag, and let it dry overnight. Buff it with a rag the next day. Long live your wooden Utensils!
